Arriving on Efate

Plan your arrival

Bauerfield Airport is on Efate, about ten minutes from Port Vila town. A pre-booked transfer is the easiest start, especially for late flights.

From Bauerfield Airport

Airport shuttles, taxis and pre-arranged transfers are available. The Tourism Office says a trip to downtown normally costs around VT 2,000; Blue Express charges VT 2,000 per person to Port Vila and children 5–11 pay half.

Getting around

Hotel or airport shuttles, taxis and minibuses are common. For day trips around the island a guided tour saves time and gets you to places that are hard to reach by public minibus.

Carry Vatu

Vanuatu's currency is the Vatu (VT). Cards are accepted at many businesses in Port Vila, but markets and some visitor sites are cash-based. Keep smaller notes for entry fees.

Respect kastom

Vanuatu has strong local communities and cultural traditions. Dress respectfully when visiting villages, ask before taking photos and follow the guidance of local hosts and guides.

Check before you go

Airline schedules, weather and local conditions can change. Re-check official updates shortly before travel, especially for activities affected by wind, rain or sea conditions.

Tourist tip: many attractions charge entrance fees and some do not accept cards. Day Tours #1–#4 include entry fees; on the Round Island Tour guests pay their own.
